Great Idea: Vintage Inspired Hanging Chalkboard!

 

Yet another great use for chalk cloth!! Follow the tutorial from the Sparkle blog to create you own hanging chalkboard. All you need is chalk cloth and the following supplies wooden dowels (2), wood stain, eye and hook screws (2), chain, utility knife and a heavy-duty stapler and you've got yourself a great gift for so many people on your holiday list!!

Travel Time: Laminated Cotton Garment Bags

 

Look what I found on Pinterest today? A lovely laminate garment bag pattern, that is perfect for summer vacation season!! 

To my pleasent surprise it's from one of my Quilt Market cocktail party buddies. Melissa from 100 Billion Stars made the prettiest garment bags and shared her tutorial with us all. She used Jennifer Paganelli's pretty Sis Boom laminated cotton. The midnight blue fabric is a print called Eloise 

the contrasting print is called Candice. (I can't wait to make one for myself!!)

Great Idea by Kerri: Laminated cotton ornaments

I just love these pretty ornaments that my Junie and friend Kerri made for me!! 

They are so simple, all you need is a few small embroidery hoops (painted white), gold cording and some of your left over laminated cotton scrapes.

Make sure that the fabric is in there taught before you tighten up the hoop and trim it down the excess fabric. Next, tie on your cording and your golden.

Thanks Kerri, your my favorite Junie!! Just don't tell the others. : )

Diane from O'Quilts used some of her 5" x 6" oilcloth pieces from her charm pack to make a protective cover for her Grandmothers 1951 Fannie Farmer cookbook!! What a great way to preserve this wonderful keepsake, I am sure her grandmother would be proud as punch!!

Great Idea: Laminated Cotton Apron

How totally cute is this laminated cotton apron!?! Laura, See How We Sew, has made a wonderful hostess apron with PLEATS!! She's brilliant, brilliant I tell you! Not only did she floor me with pleats, she added a D-ring so she could keep her tea towel handy.

Painters tape to the rescue!! Personal note, don't leave the painters tape of for too long, it can leave a sticky film if it's on too long -- I've learned that one the hard way.

Great Idea: Chalk Cloth Tablecloth

The super cute family from the 86'n it blog made a wonderfully simple chalk cloth tablecloth. Chalk cloth is a fun fabric that you can write on and it's CPSIA complaint which makes it perfect for this young family! Check out their blog to see how much fun they had curing the chalk cloth, ssssoooo cute!!

Chalk cloth, oilcloth and laminated cotton won't fray when cut so all you have to do is cut it, lay it on the table and serve up your next meal! This family has a slim table so the 47/48" wide fabric is really perfect for them.

Great Idea: Chalk Cloth Tags Times Two

You know I am huge fan of the chalk cloth tag all you need is a fat quarter of chalk cloth and your golden.  I've made a few in my time and we've got a few tutorials here on our blog, ovals and ornaments!! And, there's a fun one in my book, Sewing with Oilcloth! Today I found two more to add in to the crafty mix! My Very Educated Mother shares not one but two versions to get busy with.

I like this one a lot, it's a fun no-sew project. We love those, don't we? MVEM uses Mod Podge to glue the felt to the back of the chalk cloth. Keep in mind, this won't work when attempting to glue chalk cloth to oilcloth or to another layer of chalk cloth. I've never met a glue that would adhere the two together. The felt works because it will allow the glue to dry. Cleaver!!! I am so getting out some Mod Podge and some scraps of cotton and felt tomorrow and trying this out!!!!

Great Idea: Lined Bushel Basket

I love, love, love this idea that was recently featured on Craft Gossip. Lorajean's Picnic Basket Tutorial reminded me of something similar that was in the Home Girl booth at the Ohio Country Living Fair. (see last photo) I love a bushel basket all by it's fun little self but add a liner and I could die! Don't you think that laminated cotton would be a perfect fabric for this project?

Laminated cotton is softer and more supple than the oilcloth so it can handle the gathers in Lorajean's wonderful tutorial with ease! (Pun intended!) Plus it's waterproof so it's easy clean up, just wipe clean and hang out to dry.

Home Girls, Country Living Fair 2010

The intended use for the original project was for a picnic basket, which is just as cute as it could possibly be, but I could see this being a great project basket. You could store all the bits and pieces for a single project in basket, the handy pockets would keep everything in it's place. I am thinking this would be a great way to store the two crazy crocheted afghans I've been working on. Unfortunately,  I've been working on them for about a 100 years and they're both still small enough to fit in a bushel basket.

Great idea! Oilcloth Upholstered Bench

I love this project, even if it makes me regret that I got rid of our own big, over-sized foot stool a couple of years ago.  Hannah from Angel Babies, Paint and Cookies reupholstered a tired old bench with the brown lace oilcloth. See the before, after and the how it's done here!
